For acne scarring, CO2 fractional resurfacing is the deepest of the three options we offer in Newmarket, ahead of microneedling and peels. It suits firmer, established indented scars once active breakouts have settled. Most people need a short course, and older scars take more sessions than recent ones. The aim is less visible depth and texture, not erasure. Assessment first, always.

CO2 fractional resurfacing is a laser treatment that works through microscopic columns in the skin to improve texture, scarring and fine lines over a course. It suits adults willing to take several days of visible healing. It is wrong for anyone pregnant or with active skin infection. Cost depends on the area, so see our Pricing page and book an assessment.

A fractional CO2 laser makes thousands of microscopic columns through the surface and into the deeper skin, and leaves the skin between them intact. Those untouched bridges are why you heal in days rather than weeks. As the columns close, the body lays down fresh collagen, and the texture that sat on top is gradually replaced.

We use the Lutronic CO2 fractional laser for rough texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, acne scarring, surgical scars and stretch marks. Each responds at its own pace, and older scars take more sessions than recent ones. Expect real improvement over a course, not erasure. Scars typically become flatter and softer, stretch marks narrower and closer to your skin tone, and anyone who promises you they will vanish is selling.

What it does

Why people choose CO₂ Fractional Skin Resurfacing

Smoother texture

Rough patches, enlarged pores and fine lines improve as new collagen replaces the damaged surface.

Flatter, softer scars

Acne, surgical and injury scars typically sit flatter and catch the light less after a course.

Fainter stretch marks

Marks typically become shallower, narrower and closer to your skin tone. Red marks respond faster than white ones.

Healing in days

Only a fraction of the skin is treated at a time, so recovery takes days rather than the weeks older, fully ablative lasers needed.

Step by step

How your CO₂ Fractional Skin Resurfacing appointment runs

You will be told what is happening before each step. If anything stops feeling comfortable, say so and we adjust.

  1. 01

    Consultation

We assess your skin type, the kind of scarring or texture you have and your calendar, then set the depth and number of sessions.

  2. 02

    Preparation

The area is cleansed and numbing cream is applied and left to work.

  3. 03

    Laser treatment

The CO2 laser is passed over the area in a set pattern. With numbing, most people feel heat and prickling rather than pain.

  4. 04

    Aftercare and review

You go home with a healing balm, clear instructions and strict sun advice. We review your skin before each following session and adjust the settings.

Straight answers

CO₂ Fractional Skin Resurfacing, honestly

Still unsure? Call or WhatsApp the clinic. We would rather answer a question than book the wrong treatment.

What are the days afterwards like?

Days one and two you look sunburned and feel tight, with some swelling. Around day three the skin darkens slightly and flakes like fine sandpaper. By day five to seven most people are back in makeup. The body heals more slowly than the face.

Will one session fix my acne scars or stretch marks?

No. Most people need three to five sessions, spaced four to eight weeks apart. Red, newer stretch marks respond faster than old white ones, and recent scars faster than old ones. It is improvement, not erasure.

Is it safe on darker skin?

It needs care. Darker skin is more likely to develop temporary dark patches after any resurfacing laser. We assess your skin type, may prepare the skin beforehand and use gentler settings. For some people microneedling is the safer choice, and we will say so.

Who is it not right for?

We do not treat during pregnancy, within six months of isotretinoin, or over active acne or infection. If you get cold sores, tell us, because you may need a preventive medicine first. And if your main concern is loose skin, resurfacing alone will not lift it.

Can I have CO2 resurfacing while my acne is still active?

No. We need the breakouts settled first. Resurfacing inflamed or infected skin risks a poor result and a harder recovery, and the new texture tends not to hold while acne is still forming scars. At the assessment we will look at how active your skin is. If it is not ready, we may suggest calming treatment first, or refer you back to your family doctor or a dermatologist.
